SELF-DEFENSE FOR WOMEN

a program of the auburn police department

"THIS, ABOVE ALL, TO REFUSE TO BE A VICTIM."

Margaret Atwood

A MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF

WELCOME TO RAD

self protection is an important priority for women.

Prevention is the best way to avoid being assaulted. Know your surroundings, stay in well-lit areas, and avoid being alone in unfamiliar places. According to the Bureau of Justice, almost 40 percent of all rapes take place in the female victim’s home. In the event that rape prevention fails—such as by avoiding problem areas or making sure you are never alone—the best chance for survival is to fight back.

I strongly encourage you to sign up for an Auburn RAD class. Self defense is more than just okay. When your safety is in danger, defending yourself by fighting back is the most ethical decision you can make.

I am very proud of this award-winning program. I hope you will gather your mom and grandmother, your daughter and your sister, your friends and your co-workers and sign up for Auburn RAD today! You will be so glad you did...

SUCCESS STORIES

"The RAD class made me feel empowered...

The RAD class made me feel empowered, both mentally and physically. I took this class because, all my life I have felt physically weak. I always felt that if I were attacked, I would be helpless. The RAD class made me feel empowered, both mentally and physically. It gave me the confidence in my abilities to overcome an attacker. I would strongly recommend this class to any female, no matter the age, size or skill level. What a gift for our daughters, sisters, mothers and friends."

"The instructors make you believe you can do anything!"
"I thought I wasn't strong enough to defend myself..."

"I wasn’t going to attend the RAD class because I thought I wasn’t strong enough to defend myself and that I was too old;  the reality is, crimes against innocent victims knows no age. My boss was attending so I went along-and am so very glad I did.  It was an emotionally empowering experience - you don’t need to be strong -  I learned that I am in control in any situation - and now I have the tools necessary to defend myself. It was a 'RAD' experience!!!"

"I came away feeling like I might just be able to do this..."

"I just had to thank you...for taking the time to teach us something so valuable. I really came away with feeling [like] I might just be able to do this. The way in which you cared for each one of us...you model the example of service to others...all of you are modern-day heroes in our midst, the good guys."
